A. Introduction-

1.1. Read the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Look at all of the different pictures in the book. Ask students if they notice anything different about the pictures in the book.
2.Discuss how the pictures are made of different pieces of colored paper, cut into shapes. These shapes are then glued down by the artist to create another shape or shapes. Tell the students to notice all the different shapes that were made to create the caterpillar.

B. Development-

1. Show students by example how to possibly re-create the caterpillar from the story.
2. Possibly demonstrate in the front of the classroom so that all children may see.
3. Also have examples that you have created to show them.

C. Practice-

1.Have circular shapes from tissue paper for the body of the caterpillar ready for students to glue. Also have strips of tissue paper cut for the use of other parts of the caterpillar, e.g. antennae, feet, nose, etc.
2. Have students create the body of their caterpillars like you demonstrated before.
3.Walk around the room to lend help to those who need it.

D. Independent Practice-

1.Once they all have a feel for what they are doing, continue to let them create their caterpillars on their own.
2. Make sure they add all parts necessary to make a caterpillar.
2.When the glue is dry, add hair to the caterpillar using crayons or colored pencils.
3.Once everyone has completed their art, have the students one by one explain to class their art techniques used.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.For those with learning disabilities, have a pre-printed caterpillar ready to use.
2.Have students to paint the preprinted caterpillar and show them several artistic techniques associated with painting.
