Artists: Their Works, Their Influence.
 
2. Content-
1. To present the methods of using oil paint and demonstrate their use.
2. To challenge students with the complexities of oil paints and to understand the benefits of using oil paint as well.
3. To instill a knowledge of a famous artist's life, works, and methods.
4. To be able to relate to a major artist.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.select and develop ideas for arts works, considering different audiences and different purposes, using arts elements and languages
2.respond to arts works by identifying and interpreting the influences of social, cultural and historical contexts, using arts elements and languages
 
4. Objectives-
1. To be able to demonstrate how create their own art works based on same elements of the artist chosen.
2. To explore the benefits of styles of media and understand their complexities.
3. To describe the life of their artist, their works, and methods.
4. To discover the talent, time, dedication, and hardships it takes to become a major artist.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
-Visual aids of Van Gogh paintings,
- Van Gogh biographies with brief description of his life.
-Books on time period of artisits
- Visual aids of other artists works eg. Monet, Degas.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Provide a few paintings done by Van Gogh and have the children reflect on the style, use of colour, and the subject matter.
2. Provide a brief over view of Van Goghs life, and influence for art
3.Discuss the style of painiting and compare to other
 

B. Development-

1.Have the students focusing on the key elements of the time period and life of the artist.
2. Compare different works based on colour, style, subject. What mood or message does it convey?
3. Show an artist profile example that students will create of their own artist of choice.
 

C. Practice-

1.Students will choose from a list of artists to research. They will compile information on the artist, their influence, their style, the time period in which they painted. They will pick 3 works of art as examples and discuss the elements of the works of art in detail using key terms
2.Next students will create their own piece of artwork based on the styles and influence of the artist of their choice.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Students will complete an one page autobiography of their chosen artist.
2. Will collect three art works and compare them based on the artistic elements using key terms.
3. Will create their own piece of work using those elements.
4. Students will present their findings to the class.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. For students who are gifted they can look up two artists from different periods and compare and contrast their styles, influences, time period and art works.
2. For student will exceptionalities and who have trouble finding research or creating art work of their own. They can search online for the artist of choice and provide a few sentences based on guided questions from the teacher. And for their art creation they can find 1 piece of art and comment of its style and the colours used. Then the student(s) can create their own piece based on the accommodated criteria provided by the teacher.

F. Checking for understanding-

tudents wil be assessed based on their ability to compile appropriate information abou their artists and apply key visual art terms within their autobiography.
2. Secondly, student will be assessed based on their ability to apply the style of their chosen artists as the key element in their own creation of art. Does their finsished product reflect the time period, influences and use similar methods?
 

G. Closure-

1. Students will present their brief artist description to the class.
2. Students will display and explain their art work. What media they used, how it relates to the artist of their choice.
