Know the differences between materials, techniques, and processes of Paleolithic Art between 40000 and 10000 B.C .
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Know the word "Paleolithic".
2. Know the Date in which the Paleolithic period occurred.
3. Understand the tools used for creating the work.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Write the word Paleolithic; Spell Paleolithic
2. Using historical process of elimination find the correct date for the Paleolithic time period.
3. Identify all the tools listed on a diagram
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Chalk Board/White board; 5'x8' roll of vellum paper; hallowed out bone; Dried berries, Charcoal; black,white, and brown tempera paint; 4 large bowls; drop cloth; cave man smocks; towels; projector and screen; computer cave images.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Sound out Paleolithic and spell it. Describe what life was like and what was alive in that period.
2. In the list of dates
2000-2010; 1892; 4 million B.C; 40000-10000 B.C, pick the one that seems the most likely through process of elimination.
3. Introduce each object used in cave painting. Bone, Dried Berries, Charcoal, and the cave wall.
 

B. Development-

1. Point out the the smocks are made with animal skin.
2. Blow Charcoal through the bone onto the wall. Use hands to make hand prints. Show some examples via projected images.
3. Give a demonstration on matching the tools with the names and what they are used for.
 

C. Practice-

1. When going through the dates "accidentally" wipe the word Paleolithic of and ask students to help rewrite it.
2. Hand out the worksheets
3. When worksheet is completed and correct. Students will take a cave smock and participate in making cave paintings
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Worksheet
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. The last 5 will be given extra assistance.
2. Those who have limited mobility will be assisted by a partner.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Ask students to repeat the spelling of the word Paleolithic
2. Graded worksheets
3. Repeat the Date
 

G. Closure-

1. Ask everyone where your going back to. " I have been here so long that I forgot where I belong, do you remember?"
2. Say Good-bye and what your going back to.
