3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1.Students will be able to use imagination to create an individual
quilt piece

the piece |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.The teacher will create an example of the project for students
reference.
And use that example while explaining the instructions to the students |
|
|
B. Development-
1."We will be making a quilt of our classroom."
Go over the word Art- have students come up with their own definition
of art and then create a class definition.
Explain the word color- have students write down their favorite color
and stick it in a hat (these results can be used in the math section
to create a graph of the class' favorite colors)
Bring in examples of different patterns to show the students there
is not one way to create an art piece and that art is all about individuality.
Stress the fact that everyone is different so everyone's quilt piece
will be different showing different themes through the classroom.
Finally explain the word collage- an artistic composition made of
various materials (merriam-webster dictionary, online)
2.Each student will individually create a quilt piece including cut
outs, words, and pictures of things that describe them
3.Each student will then write a summary of their art and place that
on the back of their quilt piece
4. Students will present and briefly explain what they included on
their quilt piece
4. the quilt pieces will be connected in a quilt format and displayed
on a wall of the classroom! |
|
|
C. Practice-
1.Each student picks a piece of construction paper as a base for
their quilt piece
2. students go through magazines and cut out items that explain themselves
3. it's as simple as cutting and pasting over the base from here |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
1.Watch the students and answer any questions
2.it is important to monitor or pace the classroom while students
are individually working
3. |
|
|
E. Checking for understanding-
1.Before you let the students work individually ask to make sure
every child knows what they are doing
2.Answer questions as they come your way. Because this lesson is so
open to what the student thinks of themselves don't tell them exactly
what to do let them think of an idea and support their idea from there
|
|
|
F. Closure-
1.This will include the presentation and the display of the classroom
quilt
|
|
|
7. Evaluation-
|
Students should understand that with a general idea of the project
they created the theme of their project and communicated their ideas
through the visual, quilt piece, and the presentation. This is standard
one.
Students should also understand that they used simple materials to
create their art work. The technique used for this piece is collage. |
|
|
8. Teacher Reflection-
|
Displaying the classroom quilt. Students will enjoy seeing their
art on the wall of the classroom. This is also a simple productive
way to decorate your classroom! Make sure to hand out the students
quilt pieces at the end of the year for them to keep. |
