4. Objectives-
|
1.The student will recognize the the cultural differences between
prisoners in Manzanar and themselves.
2. The student will disassemble and paste together images for use
in a collage.
3. The student will create a collage that adheres to a specific theme
and employs the elements and principles of design |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
1.Elmer's Glue
2.Poster board, construction paper, wood,etc.(something to paste your
collage piece onto)
3.Photographs, magazine prints, Internet images, fabrics, foods,etc.(all
pertaining to Manzanar)
4.Scissors |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Introduce collage project to students and discuss what is required
to complete it. Begin a discussion about subject matter and style
of the work. Next, have students view picture slides of examples of
images from Manzanar. Then show students examples of past student
projects to generate ideas for their projects. |

|
B. Development-
1. Students will research magazines, photos, and Internet for images
that relate to prisoner life in Manzanar. Students will gather additional
materials that they want to use to create their collage.
2. Students will prepare materials by cutting up/tearing up images,and
preparing additional materials as needed.
3. Students will paste materials to their chosen base and begin constructing
their collage.
4. Students will finish their collage art pieces and turn them into
the teacher for grading. |

C. Practice-
Students will work on collage projects during class period to allow
for assistance and questions/concerns. |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
Students will continue to work on projects outside of class and
complete at home if necessary. |
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
Teacher will have some supplies on-hand if students need assistance. |
|
|
F. Checking for understanding-
Students will present their unfinished projects for a class critique.
Teacher and classmates will provide feedback for each piece to encourage
creativity and answer any questions that may come up. |
|
|
G. Closure-
Students share work during a class critique. Have students give
feedback on what they think makes the piece successful and what doesn't
work.
