L'arbre ungali
 
2. Content-
Students are working on a dramatic representation of the play L'arbre ungali that will be presented to a younger grade in a few weeks. The new vocabulary words we are working on are : roche, chaud, arbre, tortue, tombe, seche, soif, magie, rapide, oublie, probleme, aider (with their corresponding actions)
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Students will learn the new vocabulary and the corresponding actions for the play.
2. Students will be able to practise their lines for the play.
3. Students will practice the dance and song for the play.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Recognize and interpret visual and verbal cues (gestures) to aid in understanding what they hear.
2.Repeat and recite a variety of simple spoken texts to develop vocabulary, pronunciation, and knowledge of language structures.
3.Recognize and use punctuation as an aid to comprehension.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
DVD player and Television
pillow/gym mat
Big Book of story and DVD
Word cards
Chart paper and markers.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Introduce new vocabulary words and have whole class do the actions together.
 

B. Development-

1. Read part of the story and point out how the punctuation gives life to the character with what he says. (point d'exclamation)

 

C. Practice-

1. Read to students with and without punctuation.

2. Have students read together as a group.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Have students demonstrate by tripping over "la roche" and stating the lines: "Aie! Qu'est ce qui se passe? J'ai mal a la tete...Oh je suis tres fache!!" which is written on chart paper.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Many students in this class are kinesthetic learners which are accommodated in this lesson by allowing a lot of free movement. (especially at the end of the day)
Also visual and audio components will be used to support other learners.
Allow "introvert" students to watch others first and then ask if they would like to try.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Students will observed by the teacher for proper pronunciation with vocabulary words and reading using punctuation marks to show expression.

 

G. Closure-

1. Have students do the dance and sing the song which sums up the whole story while reviewing actions.
