1. Topic-
Illustration / Cartooning

2. Content-
Line- A line is a path from one point to another.

Contour Line- Basic outline of the drawing.

Proportion- How things relate in size.

Shape- Lines connected to make a "model".

Color- What makes a picture pop.

Value- How dark or light

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
I.) How to create characters

II.) Understand that colors can change emotions

III.)Learn to use texture to produce different effects.

4. Objectives-
Watch an episode "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" to see different types of characters. This is to gather ideas, and understand variation.

5. Materials and Aids-
Markers
Colored Pencils

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

I.)Discuss the difference between characters.

II.)Ask what colors imply, if they do indeed make a
difference.

III.)Show the textures and parts to discuss what they mean.
i.e.} Red means anger Blue means sad

B. Development-

I.) Show them page of parts to make a character. Showing them to mirror the parts. They don't need to be accurate, as they are just reference photos.

II.) Show how different pressures with the pencils make variation, and markers are bolder colors to make things pop.

C. Practice-

Practice making shapes to make new parts, or copy the ones provided. Allow the students to work together to create possible new aspects of their creatures.

D. Independent Practice-

Allow them to create their characters by them selves. Guide them through with the new techniques they had learned previously.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

If they choose not to use reference for ideas, they are aloud to create own creatures. Though they must explain what ideas created this creature.

F. Checking for understanding-

Have them demonstrate the different pressure techniques learned through the colored pencils.

G. Closure-

Show each other their monsters, and have them compare the similarities between each others creations.

Come together, and see what everyone likes of each creation, and create one monster with all liked attributes.

7. Evaluation-
I.) Check for measures of value with pencils / markers.

II.) Check they understand creation of making a character.
