1. Topic-
|
By the time Monet painted his famous "Water Lilies" he was blind.
Other sight challenged artist include Edgar Degas and Rembrandt. These
individuals show that heart is more important then one's eyes in making
art. |

2. Content-
|
Introduction to Monet, Degas, and Rembrandt. In this we will explore
drawing and/or sculpting without the full use of our eyes. Depth of
exploration and types of material will variate on skill level and
learning style. Those with strong prescriptions will simply set aside
their glasses and others will be blindfolded. Music will be played
in the background for the students to use as inspiration. This will
help us in our understanding of the visually impaired as well as opening
up a new way for students to perceive art. |

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-

1. Helping students develop their creativity from their hearts.
2. Furthering their understanding that art isn't only made to be aesthetically
pleasing.
3. Recognizing that they can excel despite any physical/mental/emotional
challenge. |

|
1. The student desires to do incorporate this method into more of
his/her projects
2. The student's future works express more self reflection.

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Self made non toxic play dough, finger paint, crayons, construction
paper, newsprint. |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Brief introduction of Monet, Rembrandt, and Degas
2. Their success despite visual impairments.
3. The idea of making art through feeling versus what one see. |

B. Development-
Explanation of project and introduction to materials. |
|
|
C. Practice-
Three one minute warm up sessions with different materials.
|
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
Student selects one of the materials they used in practice to make
an extended project. Different musics serve to guide their internal
inspiration as they go along. |

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
The student chooses materials and methods to use that best suit
his/her learning style, ability, and maturity.

F. Checking for understanding-
1. Students discuss their artwork with the group.
2. Students discuss the challenges and advantages of this process.
