Writing a Visual Curriculum
 
2. Content-
The student will practice visual mnemonics. Students will then start to determine how they will implement this information into the art curriculum with guidance from the instructor.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. To demonstrate to students the effect that pictures has on recall.
2. The student will begin to grasp the relationship between art and memory

4. Objectives-
1. The students will sketch associative art to facilitate memory recall of the four presidents.
2. The students will be able to recall the four presidents in sequence.

5. Materials and Aids-
Blank notebook paper
Art paper
Pencils
Pictures of the first four presidents.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Students will practice visual mnemonics with guidance from the instructor.
2. The instructor will explain the relationship between associative recall.
3.
 

B. Development-

1. The instructor will guide visual mnemonics.
2. The instructor will show examples of prior work in the field of art and visual mnemonics
3.
 

C. Practice-

1. The students will see pictures in sequence of the first four presidents.
2. The students will associate the presidents with something that relates to their own life.
3. The student will the associative picture
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. The student will produce 4 sketches.
2. The student will be able to explain how each picture can facilitate recall of the presidents through association.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Struggling learners will be allowed more time.
2. Students with broken arms will be allowed to work with others and allowed more time.

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Students will us the rubric created in this lesson plan to self assess their work.
