Worry Dolls
 
2. Content-
This project is hands on, and will hopefully teach something new to the students.

The Mayans in Guatemala believed that there are worry people. You should whisper your worries to these, your special worry dolls, and then, later that night…. You should place your worry dolls under your pillow. When you wake up, the worry dolls will have taken your worries away!!
 
 
3. Objectives-
Behavioral:
explanations of learning that focuses on how one behaves through a lesson taught. Reactions from the teacher reflects onto the student. What the students see, they will react to and recognize that they should repeat the teachers actions.

 
4. Materials and Aids-
One pipe cleaner
two different colored strings, both that are five arm lengths long.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Behavioral learning:
- students will gain an understanding about the worry dolls,from my introduction.
-after an explanation, the students should be able to take the materials that are explained and create their own doll.
 

B. Development-

Explanation of activity:
1.Take 1 pipe cleaner and two different colored strings that are four arm lengths long.
2. Take the pipe cleaner and fold in half.
3. Twist the top of the pipe cleaner to make a head, make sure to twist it three times.
4. take the two end pieces and make them bent to form two arms.
5. Take one colored string and wrap it around the neck to create a shirt, wrap it all around the arms and half way town the body. When finished wrapping, tuck the end piece into the back.
6. Take the second colored string and wrap around the legs to make pants, when done, tuck the end piece into the back strings.
7. The worry doll is completed!
 

C. Practice-

-Go step by step to create the doll.
-Repeating steps over and over for the students to gain an understanding.
 

D. Independent Practice-

-Have the students complete the dolls by themselves after watching the instructor make one.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

 

F. Checking for understanding-

To make sure that the students understand the story behind the dolls and why the Mayans use them.
 

G. Closure-

Making sure that the students have a clear understanding of Worry Dolls and how to create them.
