1. Topic-
Clay Texture Jar
 
2. Content-
Creating slab built walls that are scored and slipped into a triangular jar (with a lid and attached base).
Vocabulary
- Ceramic -Score -Pin tool - Slip - Texture - Wedge

 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Wedge Clay from a ball into a square shape.
2. Use dole rods and rolling pin with a partner to roll clay to .25 inch flat (size of dole rods).
3. Trace 4 inch square template with pin tool into clay to create a wall. Partners take turns creating a wall, then repeat the steps until each has three squares of clay.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Team work.
2. Wedging Clay.
3. Rolling Clay .25 thick.
4. Trace and cut out three walls.
5. Press texture card into each wall.
6. Label zip lock bag with - Name, Room Number, and Table Number.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Clay - Clay Tools - Tracer Squares - Dole Rods- Rolling Pins - Zip Lock Bags - Sharpie Markers - Clay Boards
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Show and discuss the example 3D Triangular Jar.


 

B. Development-

1. HAVE ALL STUDENTS WRITE NAME, ROOM, TABLE NUMBER ON WHITE OF ZIPLOCK BAG AND COLLECT MARKERS.

2. Demonstrate how to wedge and form clay into a square shape.
3. Demonstrate how to work with a partner to roll until clay is .25 inch thick.
4. Demonstrate how to use pin tool to trace square and create one wall.
5. Show how to use texture sheets to create texture.
 

C. Practice-

1. Students team up and create a wedge square.
2. Roll out and trace .25 inch thick wall.
3. Take turns and create 3 walls.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Students create 3 walls.
2. Students add texture.
3. Team work.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Work with any student individually having
difficulty.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Three walls created.
2. Texture Created.
 

G. Closure-

1. Place all three walls into ziplock bag flat and next to each other and close bag.
2. Students clean up area and return all material where it belongs.
3. Students carry bags to teacher for storage
(call one table at a time). Then students wash hands, return to table and wait to line up.
 
7. Evaluation-
1. 3 walls with texture created.
2. teams worked together.
3. walls labeled in bag and turned into teacher.
