3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. The children will learn about primary colors and secondary colors.
2. The children will learn about warm and cold colors.
3. The children will learn about complementary colors.

 
4. Objectives-
1. When shown the primary and secondary colors the children will be able to identify the difference between primary and secondary colors.
2. When shown the complementary colors children will be able to identify colors that are complementary to each other.
3. When shown warm and cold colors the children will be able to identify the differences between warm and cold colors.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
1. Smartboard
2. Paper (different sizes)
3. Paint (red, yellow, blue)
4. Jars to mix the other paint.
5. Paper plates
6. Markers/pencils
7. The book - The Color Kittens�
8. Paper in all the different primary and secondary colors.
9. Have back up paint

 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.The teacher will start out the lesson by asking the class what their favorite colors are.
2.After asking the children their favorite colors the teacher will read the class the book “The Color Kittens”
3.The teacher after reading the book will ask the children do they know what are primary color and secondary colors. Then the teacher will go back through the book and point out what primary and secondary colors are.
 

B. Development-

1.Have the 3 primary colors in a jar and have the other secondary colors near the jars. Ask the children what color they would think “blue and yellow�� would make. Then show the children by demonstrating mixing the colors. Repeat until the teacher has all the colors.
2.With the smart board make two different pictures. One picture is only using warm colors and the other only cold colors. Ask the children what are the differences between the two pictures.
3.Show the children how different colors complement each other by showing different pictures made of the two complementary colors.
 

C. Practice-

1.With the Smartboard have a page were there are only primary colors. Have the students come up one by one to make a new color by dragging the colors together.
2.With the Smartboard again have all of the colors on the page. However have the page divided so one side is Warm colors and the other side is cold. Have children come up and put each color on the right side of the page.
3.Sing a song about the primary and secondary colors. The song the teacher will teach the children will be “The Primary and Secondary Colors”
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Have a worksheet on the primary and secondary colors.
2.Let the children mix the colors in small groups of 3-4 children.
3.Come up with a song about the primary and secondary colors.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.While the children are working on the worksheet the teacher can read all the questions on the worksheet out loud for the children who are having more problems reading the text.
2.When explaining what colors are primary and secondary repeat once or twice so the children can process the information. Also the teacher should not go right into another, allow time for the children to fully process.
3.Also when bringing up word of the colors on the smart board the teacher should also have a picture of that is the color. It can help the children recognize the color in real life.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Ask the children questions. For example ask the children the question “what does red and yellow make” while pointing to the picture of the color on the smartboard.
2.Can go through the book the teacher read in the beginning and see if they can tell the teacher which colors mix and what will happen.
3.Have the children make a rainbow with 3 oil pastels of the primary colors. The children will be able to mix the pastels to make other colors.
 

G. Closure-

1.The teacher will sing/play a song for the children the song “The Secondary Samba”.
2.The teacher will have the children pick out their favorite secondary or primary color. The teacher will ask how they make their secondary color for review. With the favorite color the children pick out they will pick out a piece of paper that will complement the color they picked out. The children will all put their hand prints on the paper to make a banner with all of their hand prints and complementary paper. The banner will be hung up on the bulletin board.
 
7. Evaluation-
1.Give the children the basic primary colors in paint red, yellow, and blue. Have the children mix their own secondary colors.
2.After mixing their paint colors the children will be able to paint. The teacher will go around to each child and ask questions about what colors the children are using.
