To understand the aesthetic concepts and demonstrate its application by the proper use of vocabulary of the visual arts in essays and discussions.

Vocabulary:

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
To gain appreciation for art and to be able to perform constructive criticism on any piece of art work.
 
4. Objectives-
1.To demonstrate the knowledge of the visual arts vocabulary.

2.To be able to identify the principals and elements of art in a painting.

3.To analyze and interpret a piece of art in this case a painting by writing an essay about it.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
- Computer and projector
- Writing paper
- Pen or pencils
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Review the concepts of the principals and elements of arts.

 

B. Development-

Display and give a brief explanation of some famous paintings by using a power point presentation.
 

C. Practice-

After listening to a brief explanation of a famous art piece the students will identify in a group discussion the principals and elements that the artist uses in his or her painting.
 

D. Independent Practice-

A famous painting will be projected in the front of the classroom. The student will analyze and interpret this paint by writing an essay.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

For the following activity those who have visual problems will be reassigned to the front of the class for a better view of the presentation.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

The students should be able to write an essay which will contain the following: principles of arts used, elements of arts used, short and constructive critic of the piece, and a personal interpretation of the painting.
 

G. Closure-

The students will discuss to the group or class their interpretations of the painting.
