Subject: Theatre History
1. Topic-
Greek amphitheater and performance.
 
2. Content-
Information about the Greek amphitheater, actors, masks, and tragic hero-heroine. Know meaning of orchestra, theatron,skene,chorus,and crane.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Students will be able to understand the time period of the Greek Tragic Drama.
2.Be able to understand the mechanics behind Greek Theatre.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Students will understand the basic information of Greek Drama by taking notes, and doing Internet research.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Textbook, computer, PowerPoint.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.I will start by showing a picture of the Greek amphitheater and will ask students to come up with similarities between the Greek amphitheater and today's coliseums.
 

B. Development-

Students will take notes on the Greek Amphitheater, actors, masks, and tragic heroes-heroines pertaining to performance. Students will then take notes on the mechanics of the Greek theater.
 

C. Practice-

After the PowerPoint, students will move to the computer and do Internet research pertaining to the mechanics of the Greek theater and then subsequently create a blog entrance about what they think it would be like to be a stagehand during that period.
 

D. Independent Practice-

Students should finish their blog piece if they have not already. They should also choose a Greek mask to research at home. They should create a project of their choice to teach the class about said mask.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

I will provide hard copies of notes to students who need them, and assign a mask if they cannot find one.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

I will ask questions throughout the note taking session to judge attention span and clarity. I will also monitor students as they are on the computer to keep them on task.
 

G. Closure-

Have students finish up computer work 10 minutes before end of class. At end of class have a discussion about key points learned.
 
7. Evaluation-
Assigned homework of the mask project, as well as a word search puzzle created by me, with a fill in the blank answer key based off of key terms from the notes. Students must find he word first, then find it in the puzzle.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
Reflect on understanding of what was covered, and if more time must be given for students to grasp the information.
