Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will compare and contrast different career options.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students will learn about available careers by exploring various career options.
2. They will determine the benefits and the difference between career options.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Handout 1: Career Zones
Handout 2: Career Quiz
Paper, pencils or pens
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Students are instructed to read Handouts 1 & 2.
 

B. Development-

1.The teacher displays and explains handout 1 & 2.

 

C. Practice-

1.Teacher announces the amount of time they will have to complete the Quiz, and then announce they are "on the clock".
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Student takes and complete the Career Quiz independently.

 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Teacher demonstrates different career choice with visuals such as posters and school course catalogs

 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. After allotted time, the teacher check to make sure all students are ready to proceed.
2. Teacher displays the answers on Teacher Resource1:Career Quiz Answers or read answers.
3. Students check their own answers.
4. Teacher leads a discussion of any surprised, how well they did on the quiz.
 

G. Closure-

1. Students will complete a journal activity or some form of documentation of career options.
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Students will complete a six interest areas career description test.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
How well the students were engaged with the career choices. Students wanted more information about careers in medical.
