3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Understand the differences between the various theories of leadership
and management presented in the syllabus.
2. Apply theories of Likert, Fiedler, Blake and Mouton, and Tannenbaum
and Schmidt.
4. Objectives-
1.Produce a 3-5 minute video illustrating the leadership theory
as it applies to real business scenarios, e.g. hiring and firing,
training, disciplinary action, appraisals and conflict resolution.
2. Produce a short executive summary outlining the conflict and the
application of the theory to resolve the issue or remedy the situation.
3. For student's to produce a half page conflict or business scenario
in which Human Resources is the focus. |
5. Materials and Aids-
Stimpson book, ibbusinessandmanagement.com, PowerPoint, Internet
connection, class notes. |
6. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
1.Introduce students to the topic of leadership theories.
2.Explain the activity using examples to illustrate the expectations
of the students. This could prove difficult as it's the first year
we're doing the activity.
3.Assign students their theorist and scenario. |
B. Development-
1.Students will be required in the first phase to create a business
scenario in groups in which there is an internal conflict in the organization
that has a Human Resources element to it. This will be used by students
in other classes or other groups in order to create their video.
2.Students will then research their assigned theorist and apply his
theory to resolve the issue or illustrate the problem in the context
of the theory. They will design their video with this outline.
3.Students will create the video in to be shown in class whether it
be animated or acted out. |
C. Practice-
1.The students will direct and shoot the video that shows the resolution
of their scenario using their theorist OR illustrate the conflict/problem
in the context of their assigned theorist.
2.Students will present their video to the class and submit the executive
summary explaining the basics of the theory and the application to
resolve the scenario or illustrate the problem. |
D. Independent Practice-
1.Collect and review, together, the scenario that the group has
designed for another group.
2.Review outline and storyboard for the video and executive summary.
3.Each activity will be collected and graded. |
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1.The use of more advanced students in the brainstorming or development
of ideas. Minimal amount of teacher interference so as not to limit
the creativity of the groups.
2.Enlisting the help of Pablo Benitez with any technical issues that
may arise through the use of technology.
F. Checking for understanding-
1.Rubric will be based on standard IB rubric for Internal Evaluation
for HL research project, specifically Criterion B, uses of theoretical
concepts, sources, and data and Criterion C, analysis and evaluation.
Additional rubric criteria will be based upon level of creativity
and compliance with all requirements (including listening to other
student's presentations respectfully).
G. Closure-
1. Students present 3-5 minute video to class.
2. Students submit executive summary. |
7. Evaluation-
