1.Understanding of savings accounts and the importance
2.Understand how to keep record
3. Perform number skills to see if they can afford a house in different situations.
4. Students have a better understanding of how to spend money on their rent or mortgage.

A. Introduction-

Who already has a savings account? Who knows how they work?

Ask students what it takes to buy a house, and if they think they can afford one.

 

B. Development-

1.Go over what a savings account is
2.Types of accounts
3.Types of transactions
4.Balancing
I will review samples then go through each of the problems with them
 

C. Practice-

As a group, do transactions in a register. (Deposits, withdrawals, interest, balances.)

Practice on the board and review with the students.

 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Have youth do a few calculations/balancing on their own.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Students can work at a different pace. Work load is dependent on different students.
