6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Provide the statistics for approximately how many of students are affected by GLBT issues (around 10%)

2. Brainstorm how this affects education and social interactions within the school

Possible responses: poor academic performance due to bullying, strong emotional issues when facing GLBT, relationships with parents and peers may change, etc.

 

B. Development-

1. As a group, have the teachers brainstorm the issues students face surrounding GLBT

2. Brainstorm stereotypes and terms that go along with GLBT bullying and how to address them

 

C. Practice-

1. Teachers will then develop a code of conduct surrounding GLBT bullying

2. Teachers will be responsible for knowing the consequences and creating the consequences associated with GLBT
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Teachers will develop logical punishments for students who are bullying
2.Teachers will need to create a Straight-Gay-Alliance group within their schools and design a poster and students sign up sheet
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Teachers can also create any other form of media advertising to advertise against GLBT bullying or the gay-straight alliance club
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. At the end of the meeting someone will give the group the minutes and make sure everyone understands what to do with GLBT bullying
2.Teachers will be given a simulation in which they will be giving out a punishment for GLBT bullying
 

G. Closure-

1. Review the anti-bullying policy already in place

2. Put the GLBT bullying policy along side it and take it just as seriously
