Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
1. Teach students what compound words are.
2. Teach students to make compound words using flash cards.
3. Teach students to spot compound words in their daily reading.
 
Teacher Objectives-
1. The main learning objective is that students will match and combine two words to form a compound word.
2. Student will be able to identify compound words from a list of words.
 
Resources-
- Power Point Presentation for the begining part of the lesson.
- Each group of three to four students will have a bag filled with a deck of cards that has the begining part of the compound words and the ending part of the compound words, so there should be 80 small word cards for the 40 words on the list.
-Each student needs a piece of paper to write down the compound words that they find.

 
Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1. Teacher will use the short powerpoint presentation to show the students how to make compound words.
2. Teacher will then go over the materials with the students.
3.Teacher will practice with students to make sure that they all understand the taask at hand.
 

2. Lesson Progression-

1. Teacher will show students how to do the activity by using the cards that were made to make compound words in front of the class.
2. Teacher will explain how to use the cards in the groups and go over the instructions again.
 

3. Guided Practice-

1.Students will be dismissed into their groups to word on making compound words together.
2.Students will need to make 25 compound words to complete activity. (even though there are 40 compound words for the activity)
3. At the end of the activity students will read their list out loud that they made in their groups.
 

4. Student Practice-

1. For more parctice students will have a reading assignment where they need to write down a list of 20 words that they find in a book that they are reading for free time. If they cannot make 20 words from their book then they should use a magazine or newspaper article as well.
 

5. Learner Accommodations-

1. If students are struggling and not understanding teacher can give more examples of compound words in front of the class.
2. For their homework: If they cannot make 20 words from their free reading book then they should use a magazine or newspaper article as well.
3. If students are not working on task in their groups then they can do the activity on their own as a quiet activity. (teacher must make sure that there is enough materials to go around for the entire class in case this happens)
 

6. Assessment-

1. Students will read off the list of compound words that the students made in their group.
2. Teacher will ask students to read off some of the compound words that they found in their reading assignment.
 

7. Lesson Closure-

1. Teacher will go back over making sure that the students know what a compound word is and how to make them when they are writing.
 
Measuring Student Progress-
1. Teacher will give a matching worksheet where one side has the begining part of the compound word in one column and the the ending part on the other. they will have to match the begining with the end.
