Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
1. Students should be able to determine the organizational structure of a research paper by putting it in proper order
2. Students should be able to put an MLA works cited entry in proper format based on the type of source it is

Teacher Objectives-
1. 3.03 Demonstrate the ability to read, listen to and view a variety of increasingly complex print and non-print argumentative texts appropriate to grade level and course literary focus, by:identifying and analyzing text components (such as organizational structures, story elements, organizational features) and evaluating their impact on the text.

3 different research papers cut into paragraphs
works cited entries for each paper written on sentence strips and cut into pieces
highlighters - yellow, orange, blue, pink and green
white boards
examples of sources
 
Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1.Review the organizational structure of a research paper
2.Review the color coding process for determining the elements of each paragraph
3.Review the basic information a works cited entry should include
 

2. Lesson Progression-

1.Work through an outline example on the board showing the organization of a research paper
2.Have a student read the basic information you would need for a works cited entry from a book and write the example on the white board
3.
 

3. Guided Practice-

1.With white boards, give source information to students and have them practice writing the works cited entry for the source
2. Do same for an outline
3.
 

4. Student Practice-

1.Put students in groups of 4-5
2.Give each groups a research paper that has been cut into segments; give students works cited entries from that paper that has been cut into segments
3.Have each student in the group take a segment or two of the paper and color code it for general info, debatable idea, support, elaboration and transition sentence
4. Have students, working as a group, put paper back into logical order
 

5. Learner Accommodations-

1. Activity is self paced for students who work at a slower pace
2. Group work allows for stronger students to assist students who are struggling
3. Color coding allows visual students better grasp of the organizational structure of a paper
 

6. Assessment-

1. Once students have put paper in order, give them the whole paper to check for accuracy; do same with works cited entries

1. TOD: Based on today's activity, what do you need more practice with?

Measuring Student Progress-
1. Student paper will be assessed for proper organization.
2. Works cited page will be evaluated to determine if it matches MLA format.
