Expected Outcome Of This Lesson Plan-
1. For students to independently and successfully achieve a full literary analysis introduction based on a poem.
2. For students to use Poetry analysis checklist and to actually annotate their poems.
3. For students to synthesize the information from the annotation into a logical introduction for a literary analysis paper.
 
Teacher Objectives-
1. Students to use poetry analysis checklist and understand all the terms on it.
2. Students to use literary analysis dictionary to pick out different techniques.
3. Students to use tone words and good verbs in their introduction.
4. Students to use the information from the model and incorporate it.

Teaching Methods-

1. Lesson Introduction-

1. Bell Work: Adverbs FCIM
2. Reading of poem: first with poet's voice and then as a choral reading.
3. Model annotation and use of checklist.
4. Model good introduction.
 

2. Lesson Progression-

1. Model poem by Robert Frost "Fire and Ice."
2. Model how to use the poetic analysis checklist.
3. Model how to write a good interpretative statement. Rather than actually physically doing it; have husband film it and play Movie Maker version of it.
 

3. Guided Practice-

1.Practice now with poem in Springboard "Four Skinny Trees" pg. 29
2. Walk around and monitor progression.

4. Student Practice-

1. Homework is to do a Tracy Chapman poem "Talking about a Revolution."
2.Measure if they annotate.
3. Measure how detailed they make the annotation.
4. Measure the logic of the introduction.
5. Measure how many good techniques they use.
