1.What makes a hero? Is Odysseus worthy of being called a hero?
2.Review of terms - Epic poetry, epic hero, length, Homer, rahpsodes
3.Reader's theater - Skits of The Illiad and The Odyssey to date. |

2. Lesson Progression-
1.Read The Odyssey pointing out key points.
2.Homeric Similes (p. 645)
3.Epithet (715) |

3. Guided Practice-
1.Before we read (or after depending on the flow in the class) students will answer with a few examples of epthets. I will write them on the Smartboard. |

4. Student Practice-
1.With about 15 minutes left in class students will complete Practice 2 on page 715. |

5. Learner Accommodations-
1.I will read a large portion of the text so long as the students follow along.

6. Assessment-
1.With ten minutes left in class, I will have students call out the critical learning points for today.
2.Students will summarize and note differences between the movie and the text. |

1.Students will jot down the critical elements into their notebooks. |
