1. Students to understand the content of poems.
2. Students to see that one poem was written in response to another.
3. Students to see sarcasm and parody in Labochere poem, "Brown Man's Burden."
4. Students apply literary theory to poem: Cultural and historical, as too archetypal and Marxist.
 
Teacher Objectives-
1. Students during Jot Thoughts had some clue of what imperalism or colonization is.
2. Students were able to apply JOT THOUGHTS activity to the themes of poems.
3. Students see paraody in the one poem.
4. Students are able to analyze and have break out sessions discussing the poems with one another.
5. Students are able to mix groups and discuss both poems with one another the Kipling and the Labochere poem.
