Rigby's On Our Way to English Leveled Reading Guide, Teacher's Guide.

Individual copies of "My home" - Rigby ELL level B guided reader.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. After completing SRA's Language for Learning, invite children to sit at the table. Call on them one by one to have some sort of order.
2. Inform the students that we are going to read a book together and it is about a boy showing us different parts of his house. Say, " Let's see if his home looks like your home"
 

B. Development-

1. Introduce social studies concept. Talk about different rooms in their homes. Prompt as needed.
2. Using reading strategies, have students flip through the book and pause at each picture to discuss and predict. Have students look for words they may know.
3.
 

C. Practice-

1. Read aloud the first time.
2. Remind students to place finger on the words as you read aloud, soon it will be their turn.
3. Remind them to anticipate reading by getting their mouths ready for the sound of the first letter.
4. Take turns allowing students to read a sentence each once.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Allow them to read silently if time allows and they desire.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Ask direct question rather than open ended question.
2. Read along with them aloud, however, make sure they are leading, not the teacher.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Oral and visual authentic assessment.
 

G. Closure-

1. Read the book having the student lead the reading.
2. Ask questions that prompt students to tell you what the main idea was.
3. Flip through the book reviewing the words and looks for uppercase and lowercase letters.
