6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Truth or Myth Handout. Ask students to identify each statement
about eating disorders as a truth or myth. Discuss misconceptions
related to eating disorders by providing information to dispute the
myths. Information is found on the answer key.

B. Development-
1.Review the three main types of eating disorders.
2.Review the findings as they related to eating disorders from the
YRBS.
3.Review with the class additional statistics as they relate to Eating
Disorders. |

C. Practice-
1. Have the students divide up into three groups.
2. Each group will have 25 minutes to research one of the three topics
(Anorexia, Bulimia or Binge Eating)and develop a short presentation.
3. Each group will present their findings to the class.
4. After each presentation, ask the class to participate in a discussion
related to the presented topic - Focus on what warning signs should
present themselves for each topic. |

D. Checking for understanding-
1. Review the three main eating disorders.
2. Review the warning signs for each disorders. |

E. Closure-
1. Pass out the Journals - Explain to each student that they should
begin keeping track of everything they eat each day from sun up to
sun down.
2. These journals will be reviewed in our Healthy Eating instruction
lesson next week. |

1. Identify two issues you learned from this lesson.
2. Did the teacher effectively communicate the objectives to the class? |
