A script to read to students to make them aware that they can control
their ability to relax. |

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1. To show students that through imagery they can communicate with
their bodies. Unharnessed negative images can alter physiology and
make you susceptible to a variety of ailments through this positive
imaginary lesson students will learn that they can improve the way
they feel and behave using this stress reduction technique. |
|

4. Objectives-
|
1. Encourage the students to use visualizations to elicit peak performance
and reduce stress. Almost all of the world-class athletes and other
peak performers are visualizers. The see their goal, feel it, experience
it before they actually do it. They begin with the end in sight. Through
an understanding of visualization students can create an internal
comfort zone so that when they get into a situation they are not afraid
to journey through it.

%. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Imagery is at the center of relaxation techniques and is designed
to encourage your brain to produce chemicals that act as tranquilizers,
lowering blood pressure, heart rate, help treat insomnia, obesity,
phobias and anxiety levels. Imagery is recommended for headaches,
chronic pain in the neck and back, high blood pressure, and spastic
colon. |

B. Development-
1.The instructor will read "The Magic Solution" a visual guided
imagery example designed to encourage healing. Students are told that
imagery works best when it is used in conjunction with a relaxation
technique. Loosen your clothing, take off your shoes get comfortable
in the chair. Dim the lights if you prefer, close your eyes, take
a few deep breaths. |

C. Practice-
1.The guided imagery takes approximately 15-20 minutes. |
|
|
D. Closure-
1. Ask students if they "felt" anything and if they did what did
they feel. Do they feel more relaxed. Why do they think it worked?
Why do those that didn't feel anything positive feel it didn't work?
