3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Become familiar with scoliosis.
2.Understand the method used on taking a scoliosis x-ray film.
3.Understand the anatomy of a scoliosis film.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Define key anatomical terms.
2.Be able to recognize the abnormalities of a scoliosis film.
3.Identify normal anatomy of the entire human spine
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Scoliosis video and animation
worksheet over normal anatomy and one of scoliosis anatomy.
Pictures between a normal spine and a spine that has scoliosis.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Scoliosis video to help students understand what it is, and how the spine is curved.
2. Stress how important it is to get the x-ray of a scoliosis correct, and the importance of it.
3. Introduce the different positions and cassettes used for a scoliosis exam.
 

B. Development-

1.Introduce the cassette and how it is different from a regular cassette for everyday x-rays.
2. Help them understand the importance of undressing the patient and having them take off their shoes so feet are flat on the floor.
3. Help them to understand the different positions used for a scoliosis exam.
 

C. Practice-

1. Practice setting the room and the cassatte up.
2. Postion the patient with all clothing objects and shoes off.
3. Practice postioning eachother for the correct position used for scoliosis exam.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Anatomy worksheet over the spine.
2.Worksheet over the differece between scoliosis curves.
3. Evalation of how the students perform a scoliosis x-ray on a child or teen.
 

E. Closure-

1.Go over the main points
2.Stress on how important it is to obtain the correct scliosis x-ray.
 
7. Evaluation-
1.A full class quiz with an essay portion.
