1.The students will be able to practice and recite a play when given lines.
2.The students will be able to work cooperatively within a group setting.
3.The students will understand and adhere to punctuation with feeling and excitement.
4. The students will be able to understand the importance of Christmas.
 
4. Objectives-
1. The students will practice lines nightly.
2. The students will make puppets and props to assist with their plays.
3. The students will perform the plays for an audience of younger peers and their parents.
4. The students will work in a group situation.
5. The students will begin to understand that Jesus is the reason for Christmas.
 
5. Materials and Aids-

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. The students will be paired into groups of 2 or 4.
2. The students will be given a script and as a group assign parts and change text as needed.
3. The students will be given time in class to make puppets and props to assist with their plays.
 

B. Development-

1. The students will practice reading their plays out loud.
2. The students will use background knowledge of the play "A Christmas Carol" that we attended to get ideas on how to entertain an audience.
3. The students will practice their plays for their peers, and use comments from their classmates to perfect their play.
 

C. Practice-

1.The students will read their lines nightly for homework.
2.The students will work in their groups once a day to practice their play.
3. The students will perform the play for the teacher and classmates, before performing for their target audience.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. The students will practice lines at home.
2. The students will practice lines in school.
3. The students will work during free-time to make props and finish puppets.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Some children will be expected to lines memorized.
2. Some students will use note cards with their lines written on the cards.
3. All students will practice their lines that have been highlighted on paper.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. As a class we will discuss the importance of giving especially at Christmas time.
2. As a class we will revisit punctuation and the meaning behind each mark.
 

G. Closure-

1. The students will perform their plays for each other, younger peers, and their parents.
2. The plays will be video taped and replayed for enjoyment.
 
7. Evaluation-
1. The students will receive an overall grade for cooperation, organization, effort, and performance.
