1. Student will write about their Thanksgiving break.
2. Student will draw a picture to represent what the student wrote.
3. Student will read what they wrote out loud to either the teacher or the class.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Today we'll be writing in our journals about the wonderful Thanksgiving feast and break we had with our family and friends. You'll want to write a sentence or two about your break and draw a picture to go along with it.
 

B. Development-

Example: My family had a big turkey at Thanksgiving and all my family and friends had a nice feast.

The words I want you to use will be written on the board, but don't forget to use the word wall for other words you may have forgotten over break.
 

C. Practice-

1. Use the word wall
2. Use the dictionary
3. Ask a neighbor for help
 

D. Independent Practice-

Homework will be to read your journal writings to 5 people to show them how much you enjoyed Thanksgiving.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Those who do not of people readily available will be allowed to read their writings to faculty and staff with in the school.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. They are using proper words to describe their holiday break.
2. They're picture reflects what they have written.
3. Student is asking questions.
 

G. Closure-

1. Clean up tables
2. Read writings at least once either to the teacher or to the class (both if there is time).
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Student can demonstrate use of new words and words previously learned on word wall.
2. Student is willing and able to read their writings out loud.
