before hearing the story. Wampanoag, Plymouth, Massachusetts, Autumn.
Mid level group has, Mayflower, Gratitude, Settlers, Harvest. The
lower level has Pilgrim, New World, Feast. |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
The First Thanksgiving by Linda Hayward. Answering worksheet questions.
First question, "Why did the pilgrims begin their voyage?"� - second
question, "What are conditions on the Mayflower like?"� and thirdly,
"What did the pilgrims discover when they reached the new land?"� |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Discuss the Thanksgiving holiday. What does it mean to each student?
What do they know about the holiday and how it came about? What are
we celebrating? |

B. Practice-
1. Hand out questions to allow students to make inferences
2. Listen to story
3. Responses based off of the story read aloud |

C. Independent Practice-
1. Students will come together and discuss their thoughts about
Thanksgiving. What did they think before the story. How does it differ
from their first or initial thoughts? |

D. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Less responses required
2. Writing time increased

E. Checking for understanding-
|
F. Closure-
1. Come together with the class and discuss what the initial thoughts
were and how that has changed. Students can tell stories of their
Thanksgiving experiences. Reflect on how different it has become from
what it was and try and connect the experiences if they can. |
