1.To raise awareness of necessity of recycling.
2.To construct a useful item from one which may have gone to waste.

3. To share the importance of this sort of activity with friends and

Needles&Thread, scissors, newspaper for patterns, markers, staplers,

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-
1.Talk about recycling
2.Ask attendees about personal recycling techniques
3.'Weigh in' fabrics (which would otherwise end up in landfills) |

B. Development-
1.Show some repurposed items
2.Explain how they were created
3.Quick project- lunch bag

|
|
C. Practice-
1.Sort fabrics by type
2.Access what can be done with them, brainstorming
3.Make a plan in 'Design Manual'

D. Independent Practice-
1. Project from Design Manual
2.Second project from materials to give away (ie: to spread the word)
3. Discuss what to do with remaining material, cut out patterns |

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Hand-sewing/ knitters
2. Reclaiming wool for other projects. note cost of new wool
3. Younger participants will be shown how to make hankies from old
pajama bottoms and blanket stitch edges. |

1. Have attendants show their work
2. Discuss any techniques they found helpful
3. Pass around everyone's 'Design Manual' to aid in sharing of ideas/patterns |

G. Closure-
1. Weigh all items to compare to original weight of fabrics.
2. Thank everyone for coming and have short discussion of further
resources.
