5. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
This lesson plan can be used throughout the school year to demonstrate
the significance of Math in everyday situations. |
|
|
B. Development-
Hang a large calendar on the classroom wall. Use Velcro "month names"
to interchange between the months. Have cutouts of numbers for the
different months. For example, April can have 30 umbrellas. As the
students attend each day, a new number will be placed on the calendar.
As the calendar grows, their counting will increase. The next step
will be to use coins to represent the date. For example, if today's
date is the 26th, the wall pouch representing money will have a quarter
and a penny for that day. The amount will of course change as the
date changes. The last step during the Calendar Fun lesson plan is
to go over the number of completed days at school. Use three wall
pouches (clear windows) to presents three columns. (Hundreds, Tens,
Singles)If the students have been at school for 140 days, then there
will be 100 straws in column one, 10 groups of 40 in the middle column
and 0 straws in the singles column. |
