Comprehension of Shape Recognition
 
2. Content-
Rectangle, Square, Circle, Star, Diamond, Triangle, and Heart.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.To recognize the shape on a flash card.
2.To recognize objects of the particular shape.
3.Point out the specific shape within the environment.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Be able to patiently work through each flash card.
2.Have the ability to do the worksheet individually without argument.
3.Be able to participate with peers to point out objects within the environment.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Shape Flash Cards
Pictures with shaped objects
Matching Shape Worksheet
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Go through the individual false cards and allow them the chance to recognize it, if the student is unable I will inform the student of the shape.
2.I will allow the student to go through the cards again for a second chance to recognize the shape.
3.I will point out examples within the classroom.
 

B. Development-

1.I will demonstrate by showing them the cards first and telling them the shape.
2.I will say the name of the shape to help the student when they are having difficulty with a card

3.I will demonstrate with other objects of the shape.
 

C. Practice-

1.Flash Cards with the help of teacher.
2.Flash cards with the student working independently, with the facilitation of the teacher.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Shape Matching Worksheet
2.Assess with the flash cards once again at the end of the unit.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.If the flash cards and worksheet are unsuccessful, I will attempt to try a bingo game, or a puzzle to show recognition.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.I will assess each student by testing them with another worksheet on shapes.
2.I will ask each student to search the room for a particular shape.
 

G. Closure-

1.After assessment I will read a story about shape recognition called "I See Shapes" by: Marcia Fries
 
7. Evaluation-
1.I will evaluate each student during this process on their learning ability to comprehend the shape recognition.
