3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Students will learn the days of the week and the months of the year.
2. Students will learn the alphabet.
3. Students will identify rhyming words.
4. Students will identify colors and shapes.
5. Students will learn to count.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students will say the days of the week in order and be able to determine what day it is through a song. Students will be able to say the months of the year in order and be able to say what month it is through a song.
2. The students will sing the alphabet song to determine what letter we will be focusing on this week (M).
3. The students will help me determine what words rhyme/do not rhyme.
4. The students will identify the color of the week, and they will take turns finding that color around the classroom. The students will identify the shape of the week and find that shape around the classroom.
5. The students will practice counting.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. The students will help me determine what the date is and what day of the week it is. Then we will sing the months of the year and days of the week songs.
2. We will determine what the letter of the week will be. (M) We will say the alphabet, and then the children will say what comes after L. We will go through the letter cards and see which pictures begin with M.

B. Development-

1. We will pick out two new rhyming cards for the board. We will discuss what rhyming means, and the advancing students will tell other rhyming words that rhyme with the cards.
2. We will pick out a new shape and color for the week.
3. One student will tell what the weather is. We will discuss that it is winter, but soon it will be spring.
4. I will pick out a number and the students will help me count out the appropriate amount of gumballs for the gumball machine.
 

C. Practice-

1. We will play "I Spy" with the color of the week. The children will take turns finding things around the classroom that have the color in it.
2. We will play "I Spy" with the shape of the week. The children will take turns finding things around the classroom that are the shape of the week.
 

D. Independent Practice-

Throughout the rest of the day, activities are geared around the letter of the week, counting, number recognition, etc.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

I will ask the advancing students more difficult questions, such as what month comes after February. I will ask what other words start with the letter M, what numbers make 28, etc.

The emerging students will be asked more simple questions involving colors and shapes.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

Throughout the year I check to make sure the children are learning during morning circle through formal and informal assessments.
 

G. Closure-

I will introduce our theme (farm) and tell them about the project we will make later in the morning.
 
7. Evaluation-
Each week I ask different children different questions during circle time to check that they are learning and retaining past information.
