6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Introduce the letters Yy using the Elmo/projector along with the cd player and the Yetta Yo-Yo poem page to sing/dance to the poem that has words that begin with the letters Yy.
 

B. Development-

1.Model writing the letters Yy on the whiteboard while the students copy what I have written.
2.As a class, we will complete a "Bubble Map" using words that begin with the letters Yy.
 

C. Practice-

1. I will ask the students to practice writing three Uppercase letter Y's on their whiteboards.
2.I will ask the students to practice writing five lowercase letter Y's on their whiteboards.
3.I will ask the students to think and give me words that begin with the letters Yy.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.In Literacy Centers, at the phonics center the students will demonstrate their knowledge of how to recognize and write things that begin with the letters Yy.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.The students will complete activities on the letters Yy based on the academic level (differentiated center work)
Advanced: Complete a Letter Yy Book.
Proficient: Draw/glue pictures on a Letter Yy Web that begin with the letters Yy.
Strategic/Intense: Color pictures that begin with the letters Yy.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.I will check for student understanding by asking the students to write the product from the activities in their journal. I will check their journals and give them feedback with a sticker, smiley face, check, or teacher/student conference if their is difficulty seen.
 

G. Closure-

1.I will end the lesson by telling them we will review the letters Yy and I will ask them if they can tell me words that begin with the letters Yy.
2.Then we will talk about what we will be using the letters Yy for next.
 
7. Evaluation-
1.I will use their journals, products, and teacher observations to help me assess if the students have an understanding of learning the letters Yy.
2.At the end of the week, the students will be assessed on their knowledge of the letters Yy.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
I will use my evaluations to help me reflect on the lesson taught along with my reflection of how to reteach or assist the students who do not master knowledge of the letters Yy.
