1.Recogonzing pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters
2.Identifying the worth of a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter
3.Being able to total the sum of several different coins
 
4. Objectives-
1.Students will be able to quickly identify coins and values
2.Students will be able to make small purchases in a store
3.Students will understand values of small inexpensive items.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
several pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Worksheet, pencil, and calculator
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Producing the coins
2.Discussing amounts of different Coins
 

B. Development-

1.I want to buy a pencil which coins do I need to make the purchase
2.Choose coins that amount to the cost of the product
 

C. Practice-

1. Pick different coins have different students tell me the amount
2.Matching game, amount matched to the coin
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Worksheet that has different items listed and the groupings of coins that would match the purchase price
2.Setting values on items then asking the students to agree with the amounts or disagree
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.A money chart placed in plain site of all students for reference.
2. A calculator could be used for those less proficient in adding and subtracting.
3.Keeping the amounts as simple as possible for certain kids.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Check matching worksheet for accuracy.
2. Ask students to write down things they have purchased and how much the items cost.
 

G. Closure-

1. Allow the students to bring money to make a purchase in a store setting
2.Ask the kids to go with their parents to buy something in a store.

1.Test of names of coins
2.Test of identifying each coins value
