1. Topic-
Beginning English Vocabulary: Basic Terms |
2. Content-
Vocabulary in the English language that is necessary to master in
order to begin learning the language. Basic verbs will be taught and
learned such as: to like, to have, and to eat. Basic colors and items
will be taught and learned as well for example: red, apple, purple,
and grape. |
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
To master the meanings of fifteen rudimentary English vocabulary
words.
4. Objectives-
To demonstrate understanding of the English vocabulary words by
matching the words communicated verbally by the teacher to the items
visually represented on cards.
5. Materials and Aids-
Large cards with pictures of the items and colors are needed. |
6. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
The first part of the lesson plan will consist of introducing the
fifteen new vocabulary words to the students. These will be taught
using pictures and a definitions sheet handout. |
B. Development-
The fifteen vocabulary words will be read aloud in French, clearly
and slowly, and the students will repeat. |
C. Practice-
The next part of the lesson plan is an activity that allows the
students to practice the fifteen vocabulary terms.
1. Cards to represent the colors learned during the lesson will be
placed about the room.
2. The students will be asked to each think of a one of the vocabulary
items.
3. The students will be asked to stand and walk to the specified color
of the object as the item is called out by the teacher |
D. Independent Practice-
The students will be expected to answer basic English questions
that use the fifteen vocabulary words discussed in class.
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
It must be made sure that each vocabulary word does have a visual
representation in the classroom somewhere that is not difficult to
find. |
F. Checking for understanding-
To check for understanding the students will display to the teacher
their knowledge of the vocabulary terms by walking to the correct
area in the classroom. |
G. Closure-
To wrap up the lesson plan, the students will learn their results
of the activity. The teacher will then review again the vocabulary
words and their meanings, so students can become aware of any wrong
identifications they have made. |
7. Evaluation-
The most obvious measures of progress will be the results that the
students receive for the activity. This will show if they understand
the meanings of the vocabulary taught. Also, progress would include
improved pronunciations of the vocabulary words simply from having
repeated exposure. Last, this lesson plan should provide long-term
memory of the fifteen words. This activity provided a visual connection
to auditory learning in hopes that in the future the vocabulary meanings
will be easier to remember. |
8. Teacher Reflection-
(to be completed after the lesson) |
