Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Introduce the project by using Adny Goldsworthy's book on environmental art (available at the Kawartha Environment Center).

B. Development-

1. While showing different photos in the book, go over the principles of design that Goldsworthy uses.
2. Have the students suggest different principles of designs (where they are obvious)
3. Prompt the students to think about how Goldsworthy used elements of nature to create his art.

C. Practice-

Students will then put on their winter clothing to go outside to the 'Art Gallery'.

En Route to the art gallery students will participate (in groups) on a scavenger hunt. On the scavenger hunt (provided by KEC) students will be trying to find things in nature that match the things they are looking for on their scavenger hunt. During the walk the group will stop at strategic points so that they students can explore the area and complete their scavenger hunt. The group will come together, and each individual group can present their "best find" to their classmates. Their best find can be the most creative, or the one that matched the best for example.

D. Independent Practice-

Once we have reached the 'Art Gallery' students will break off into predetermined groups (the same as scavenger hunt)with an adult. The students would then be free to work together to create their own Art Sculpture, trying to use one or more principles of design.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Each student can take on a different role in the Sculpture Building procedure so that way different learning styles can be accommodated. As of now, I am unaware of any physical challenges that would need to be accommodated for.

F. Checking for understanding-

After the students have designed their sculpture the students will be able to present their work to the other students as we tour the art gallery. The students should share the title of their work, what elements of design they used and one thing the group really likes about their sculpture.

G. Closure-

I will explain to the students that they did a great job building their sculpture, and that we are going to leave them intact so that the next group of students can see their work. Again I will re-enforce the elements of design.
