3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will be able to write sun and moon in Chinese
2.Students will be able to express the date in Chinese
3.Students will be introduced to new vowels an, en, in, un, un
 
4. Objectives-
1.Students can recognize which character is used for the sun and which one is used for the moon
2. Students are able to pronounce the characters
3. Students will be able to differentiate between the way the date is written in English and the way it is written in Chinese
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Chinese alphabet song; pinyin cards; bingo cards; sun and moon pictures
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Students first listen to the Chinese alphabet song and then sing along
2. Individual students indicate the pinyin that is being sung by collecting the card from the carpet
3. After all the cards have been collected, the whole song is sung by everyone.
4. The Chinese word for boy and girl is called out and the students have to indicate to which group they belong.
5. Students have to take a seat reserved for boy or girl
6. Two students are asked to write the word on the board.


 

B. Development-

1. Introduce the characters for the sun and the moon.
2. Explain the relationship of the moon and the month
3. Introduce the pinyin fornthe characters
 

C. Practice-

1. Students practice writing the characters within their groups at the table
2. Students practice writing the pinyin of the characters
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Students practice writing the characters and pinyin in their exercise books
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

For early finishers, Bingo cards are available:
Non-native speakers- Numbers and courtesy expressions
Native speakers - Basic characters and family members
 

F. Checking for understanding-

Teacher does the checking while rotating from group to group.
 

G. Closure-

Review the characters for the month of November
 
7. Evaluation-
Evaluate the knowledge and skills of the previous lesson
