| several slips of paper with simple subject + verb sentences |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
|
A. Introduction-
Teacher will ask students to review the different parts of a sentence
and parts of speech.
Teacher will give input if needed. |

|
|
B. Development-
| Teacher will explain to students that they are going to play a game
to help them recognize and use adjectives and adverbs. Next the class
is divided into 2-4 equal teams. |

|
|
C. Practice-
Teacher will demonstrate an example for the class.
The child laughed.She then gives up to 5 adjectives to describe the
subject (ex. small, young, cute, fair-haired, or sweet to describe
"child"). Then gives up to 5 adverbs to describe the verb (ex. happily,
humorously, gleefully, sweetly, joyfully to describe "laughed").
One member chooses a slip of paper with the sentence written on it.
He/she then gives up to 5 adjectives to describe the subject. The
team then tries to guess the subject. If they are correct, the team
scores 1 point. The clue-giver then gives up to 5 adverbs to describe
the verb. If the team guesses correctly, they earn 1 points.
If the team misses either the subject or verb, the next team has an
opportunity to "steal" the points by having one of their members give
one clue.

D. Independent Practice-
| The team will expand each simple sentence using what they have learned
about adjectives and adverbs. |

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
| Students who are having difficulties will be grouped with students
with a better understanding of the topic. |

F. Checking for understanding-
| Students will be asked if they had and difficulty with this. |
| |
|
|
G. Closure-
| Students will review the different parts of a sentence and the role
of adverbs and adjectives in sentence construction. |

7. Evaluation-
|
| Students will be evaluated by participation and weekly assessment. |
