Packets of sweets.
Sellotape.
Worksheets.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Show sweets and ask if anyone recognizes them.
2. Can you say anything about them in English?
3. Prompt - Are they chocolate? Are they sugary? Are they delicious? - rub tummy - MMMmm noises
 

B. Development-

1. Give examples of sentences we are going to make using prepositions - describe as words denoting LOCATION. Write Key Vocab on board - prepositions and nouns - basic sentence structure.
2. The sweets are ON the table
The chocolate is UNDER the book
The Haribo are IN the mug
The sweets are NEXT TO the apple
The apple is ON TOP OF the mug
3. Some Drilling of sentences using prepositions as above
 

C. Practice-

1. Ask students in pairs to place the sweets and fruit in various places and describe their locations using the vocab and structure on the board
2. Support the students with teacher attention to each pair in turn
3. Gently correct any key mistakes as necessary
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Provide worksheets with pictures of sweets - at the shop, in the bag, in her mouth, on a shelf, next to the crisps, on top of the cake
2. Read out some examples and explain that the students are to fill in the blanks using the vocab list on the worksheet
3. Give the students time to complete and be there to provide any guidance as needed
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Indicate it is time to leave the worksheet to one side for now and complete for homework
2. Place the sweets in various places and ask the students to describe their location
 

G. Closure-

1. Congratulate the class on some good work. Say that we can finally eat the sweets and can each have a pack. Pick one up, place it and describe location to class.
2. Hand out a pack of sweets to every student. Ensure any that struggle are well-supported to repeat accurate phrase.
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Students participating in speaking and listening exercise with effort and accuracy
2. Students completing reading and writing exercise with effort and accuracy
3. Using prepositions accurately
