2. Content-
Refresher lesson on basic rules for properly using commas in sentence building.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Teach students how to properly use commas so that students incorporate commas to add creativity in building sentences. 2. Teach students to automatically recognize errors in using commas.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students automatically recognize comma misplacement or errors when reading.
2. Students properly use commas and incorporate them in writing/building sentences for future writing assignments.
3. Students will obtain familiarity with and mastery of 11 basic comma rules for use in future writing projects.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Handout and PowerPoint Presentation "11 Rules for using Commas"
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Begin Along with lesson with handouts and slides with examples of how comma placement can change the meaning of a sentence using funny examples. Students will choose one of Students select the correct answer by choosing which sentence has proper comma grammar.
 

B. Development-

1. Students create flash cards for each rule and an include an example of the proper use the comma rule.

1. In-class worksheet to complete as homework. Worksheet has with more advanced information.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Distribute in-class worksheets of different level of difficulty to achieve differentiated instruction.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Challenge class to use at least 3+ commas in next writing prompt exercise. Check and grade prompts in part with regard to proper comma usage.
2. Quiz at end of unit.
 

G. Closure-
