3. Objectives-
1. The students will correctly use commas in a series to set off nouns in direct address, and with introductory words

2. The students will work individually on a practice sheet involving correction of sentences using capitalization, punctuation, and commas
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Textbooks, interactive board, worksheets
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. I focus on the lesson by saying a sentences in which commas are used. Example: Alex, when is the play? and I like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice-cream.

2. I will ask students to make note of where I paused in the sentence and explain that commas are used to indicate this pause
 

B. Development-

1. As a class we will review the rules of commas and I will model by using examples throughout the lesson

2. I will also guide them through the practice questions in the text
 

C. Practice-

1. I will direct the student's attention to their textbook and we will go over the rules and opening paragraph on page 178

2. We will do the "Guided Practice" together, moving on to the More Practice

3. I will display numbers 6-15 on the board and students will come up to add commas where needed
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. I will pass out practice sheets with sentences that students will need to correct with capitalization, punctuation, including commas

2. Students will work individually at their desks and I will walk around to check on them

3. If time permits, we will go over each sentence. Otherwise, students will hold onto them for tomorrow and we will go over them then
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. LD students will be given help during the Independent Practice if needed

2. LD students will have their homework worksheets read to them and will be allowed extra time or help
 

F. Checking for understanding-

I will check for understanding through the answers they give me throughout the lesson
 

G. Closure-

1. I will end by reviewing what we learned. I will ask volunteers to give me some rules of comma use

2. Students will be assigned a worksheet for homework
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Students will be informally evaluated throughout the lesson on the answers they give to example problems as well as the independent work on sentence correction

2. Students will be formally evaluated on their homework worksheets
