on people.
|

the book through the author's point of view.

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Introduce students to the concept of author's purpose. Explain
that understanding this concept will help us become better readers
and writers
2.When reading the books keep a journalist eye on the events taking
place and how the characters are reacting.
|
|
|
B. Development-
1.With each book each student will be expected to identify the most
important points and characters of each chapter.
2.Students will be able to describe the point of view the author chooses
to write from.
3.Students should be able to describe how the author feels about war
through the reading.
|
|
|
C. Practice-
1.Students will be split into groups developed by reading level
and chosen by me. Students will be asked to come up with interview
questions and answers to be performed in front of the class.
2.During outloud reading done by me, questions will be asked pertaining
to the book.
3.Group projects will be conducted and include: making a newspaper,
doing a radio broadcast (with commercials), and doing a television
news segment of about five minutes pertaining to the reading. Students
will be required to research different styles of newspapers, radio
shows, and television shows to develop their project. |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
1.Quizzes pertaining to the reading will be conducted independently.
2.Each student will be given a journal to write about the book every
few chapters. These will be turned in for me to assess the student's
writing style and to help them in expanding their writing knowledge.
2.Midterm will be a interview questionaire complete with answers.
The student can choose any character from any book we have read so
far. This will be done during class time (so students can use school
supplies, resources and computers during this time) or at home if
they so chose.
3.The final paper will be one newspaper story written by the student
(separate from previous news story), a script for a radio segment,
and a script for a news teleprompter. Previous research on these subjects
from prior group projects should prove helpful during this time. |
|
|

1.Students will have access to any available school resources.
2.Students will have access to any necessary time from me either or
after class or school when I am available if they have any questions
on the material. Appointments can also be made by student if needed.
|
|
|
F. Checking for understanding-
1.Journal entries will be used to assess progress in writing.
2.In class discussion on opinions and understanding will be conducted.
3.The midterm and final papers will also be good indicators of progress
and assessment. |
|
|
G. Closure-

share them with the class.

that I have never heard? How can I better help the struggling students?
What things did I do well that I should carry and improve on in my
future classes? |
