Today went well. We finished the Battle of Grendel and I was happy with the progress. Students were quiet as we read and literally you could hear a pin drop as Beowulf rips off Grendel's arm. Parts of the story students responded to with disgust. Other parts they wanted to know how Beowulf could possibly rip off Grendel's arm and how big Grendel and Beowulf were. We were able to connect it back to the elements of an epic.
