1. Students will be engaged in experiencing the performances
2. Students will be able to apply their understanding of the text to their own readings
3. Students will understand the reader/performer is a key player in the experience of Shakespearean text
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Copies of Hamlet
Performance rubric
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Talk to students about the many many version of Hamlet that there has been and point out how everyone's version is a bit difference. Remind them of the different versions they have seen and ask for some of the differences they remember.

B. Development-

1. Distribute the rubric and explain how they are going to perform to do the best they can using the rubric as a guideline
 

C. Practice-

1. Students will get into small groups for their performance.
2. They will rehearse
3. They will show the class their reading
4. Class discussion
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. They will write up which groups they think did the "best" group performance and explain the criteria they were using to assess this.
2. They will fill in the rubric for their own performance and justify their scores
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Students could chose just one performance to assess
2 Put students in a group with strong peers that can offer success and support
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Enjoy the readings
2. Read their write ups
3. Assess them on the rubric and see how string they are at judging their own performances
3. Look for full involvement in the class discussion
 

G. Closure-

Make a class list of what makes a good reading of Shakespeare
