2. Students will connect Anglo -Saxon Heroic traits to Heroic traits of today's society.
3. Students will work together to find common ideas on Heroes in Literature and today's society.

1. Through reading Beowulf, students will gain a better understanding of the importance of
heroism, courage and camaraderie to the early Anglo-Saxon peoples, and how their views on
these traits continue to inform western thinking
2.To have students demonstrate their abilities to inform, to persuade, or

Laptop, Projector, Handouts.

A. Introduction-

1.Ask students what is a Hero.
2.Explain who is a Hero in my life.
3.Ask students who are the Heroes in their lives.
 

B. Development-

1.Begin showing the Beowoulf/911 PowerPoint.
2.Explain the Anglo-Saxon's idea of Heroic traits.
3.Connect Anglo-Saxon Heroic traits to today's societal Heroic traits.
 

C. Practice-

1.Ask questions about the Heroic connections
2.Give group Hero worksheets/ Work through first two questions.
3.Visit and discuss with each group.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Give individual Hero handout to students.
2.Work through first two questions.
3.Visit with each student to make sure of understanding of worksheet goal and expectation.

Lesson ran longer than I had planned. I had to leave some smaller details out and do more Direct Instruction than I wanted.
