A. Introduction-
Concept of Place
1. Students listen to a reading of Maurice Sendak's 'Where the Wild
Things Are'
2. Teacher-led class discussion of the two different worlds within
the text. Brainstorm description of each - according to the structure
outlined in 'Practice' (below). |

B. Development-
Towards the Identification of each Student's Place
1. Place vs space - discussion
2. Overview of a sample of outdoor places - use images |

C. Practice-
1. Students identify a number of out-of-school places of significance
to them. Class discussion.
2. Students choose one place to reflect on |

D. Independent Practice-
1. Environmental Autobiographies distributed. Students are lead
through the first activity:

- Where is this place?
- What does it look like?
- Who is with you there?
3. Draw the place
4. Homework activity: complete the drawing. Also, students are to
draw a picture of themselves on the cover of their autobiography. |
