3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Student will correctly use a semi colon.
2. Student will identify the definition of personification, as well as examples of it within a text.
3. The students will read fluently at grade level.
4. The student will illustrate reading comprehension by creating a response journal to the Odyssey
 
4. Objectives-
1. The student will create 3 sentences, using a semi colon instead of a period.
2. The student will find an example of personification within "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," by using their own knowledge of the word as well as their group members' knowledge.
3. The student will read the section of Odyssey to themselves, prior to reading it aloud, so they are able to demonstrate reading fluently at grade level.
4. The student will predict what will happen to Odysseus and his men while in the hands of the Cyclops.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Bell Work
2. Learning Target Discussion
3. Vocab Activity--group work
4. Form circle, access prior knowledge of what is happening in the Odyssey
 

B. Development-

1. Model to students what it sounds like when we read fluently.
2. Allow them time to read through the selection on their own prior to reading it aloud.
 

C. Practice-

1. Read Lotus Eaters as a class, each turn reading as many lines as they feel comfortable reading, practicing observing punctuation.
2. Read first section of Cyclops independently, then as a group, observing punctuation.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. In order to demonstrate their understanding of Odyssey, students will independently create a response journal.
2. Do the students identify characteristics while pulling text from the book to support their answer?
3. Do students make predications using past events to help them predict what will happen while with the Cyclops?
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Extra time

Students will need to identify at least one example of personification from the Odyssey and write it down on a scratch sheet of paper, prior to leaving the classroom.
