3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Students will choose one prompt from the list to write a one page reflection in their journals.
2.Students will demonstrate clear understanding of the question and provide adequate information to support their understanding of the text.
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students will work independently to answer their question.
2. Students will write at least one full page in their journals.
3. Students will get into groups of three or four and discuss their journal entries.
4. On the next page in their journals the students will write down any extra details that came from the discussion of the question that they did not have in their answer.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Journals, Pens.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Remind students that we have spent the week reading Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.
2. Tell students they will be writing a journal entry in their notebooks, like they do after they finish any book.
3. Explain that after they answer the question they will be dividing into small groups.
 

B. Development-

1. Read my journal entry as an example.
 

Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Students are to write as much information as they can for their question, referring to the book if necessary.
 

Checking for understanding-

1. In small groups, the students may discuss their answers and any thoughts they had about other questions they didn't answer.
 

Closure-

1. As a class discussion we will go over each answer.
2. On large pieces of paper placed around the room, one student at a time writes a sentence from their answer on the paper to the corresponding question on the large papers on the board.
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Teacher can look for complex understanding of the text based on student's journal entry answers.
2. Teacher reads each student's response and looks for understanding of the question, correct response, good amount of relevant information, and notes about what the other students said about the same question.
